ConnectedSolutions Application (To be filled out by your installer)

Q: How does ConnectedSolutions work?

A: Each participating Generac PWRcell Battery provides National Grid and Eversource with cleaner, more cost-effective power by joining other homeowners and businesses in a “virtual power plant” that support reduce peak demand periods. Participating in ConnectedSolutions saves National Grid and Eversource money, which they pass on to you in the form of incentives, while also lowering carbon emissions in your region.

Q: What does a demand response event look like?

A: When National Grid or Eversource need battery power to meet peak demand, such as on a hot afternoon in the summer, it will call a demand response event. Over a period of 2-3 hours, your system will automatically export energy to the grid for the duration of the demand response event. Your Generac Certified Installer will work with you to determine the maximum amount of stored energy your battery contributes to make sure you always have enough on hand if you need it.

Q: How much can I expect to earn?

A: This will depend on your location, the season, and the average power output from your PWRcell Battery. Generac PWRcell system owners in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire will be compensated $225 per kW for the summer and $50 per kW for the winter. For owners in Rhode Island, you will receive $400 per kW for the summer and $50 per kW for the winter. Your Generac Certified Installer will help you estimate your earning potential based on your specific situation. Earnings during your first season will depend on when you officially join ConnectedSolutions, since you will receive zero credit for events that happen before then, which will reduce average power output.

Q: How will I get compensated?

A: You will receive a check after each summer and winter season. The amount is based on the average amount of battery power that your system supplies to the grid times the season rate, e.g., $225/kW during summer.

Q. As a participant in ConnectedSolutions, am I eligible to participate in Mass Save’s HEAT Loan Program?

A: Yes. The Mass Save HEAT loan sponsored by Eversource and National Grid offers Massachusetts homeowners 0% financing for up to seven years for the purchase of an energy storage device used with ConnectedSolutions. To apply, talk to your Generac Certified Installer who can help you apply.

Q. Are there other incentive programs I can take advantage of?

A: Yes, there are two incentive programs for energy storage paired with solar that you can benefit from. If you are a Massachusetts National Grid or Eversource customer with a solar system on your home, you can take advantage of the Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) Program. The SMART program comes with an additional energy storage incentive, and all SMART requirements are met through ConnectedSolutions. Federal tax credit: Your renewable energy investment may also qualify for a federal tax credit — 26% in 2020.
