Unique inverter allows customers to create efficient residential wind and solar hybrid energy systems operating on REbusTM DC Microgrid
Portland, Maine – February 21, 2013 – Pika Energy today announced it has received listing to Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 1741 standard for its 3.0 kilowatt residential-scale X3001 Inverter. The X3001 Inverter is a component of Pika’s unique clean energy system that converts direct current (DC) energy generated from a wind turbine or solar array to alternating current (AC) energy, which can be used locally or exported to the electric grid.

The UL1741 Listing signifies that the X3001 Inverter meets or exceeds the product safety standards to connect to the utility grid in the United States and Canada. Unlike conventional inverters, the X3001 enables homeowners to generate power from any combination of renewable energy sources. Together with the Pika Energy T701 Wind Turbine and S1501 PV Link, the X3001 Inverter forms a family of products that can be easily combined to form flexible, scalable wind-solar hybrid systems. The X3001 Inverter—which can be located indoors or outdoors—can be used to configure a wind energy system, a solar energy system, or a wind-solar hybrid system with the flexibility to add or change energy sources at any time.
All energy devices connect to the X3001 via REbus™ DC Microgrid, a highly efficient power distribution platform operating at 380 VDC. Pika Energy currently manufactures two products for use with the X3001 Inverter: the T701 Wind Turbine and S1501 PV Link. PV Link connects an array of standard solar modules to the 380VDC REbus™ DC Microgrid. Since the X3001 Inverter contains built-in WiFi, a feature that is unique in the inverter industry, owners can monitor their system’s performance remotely on any device. The X3001 supports bidirectional power flow to be forward-compatible with future products that enable DC loads. These future products include a charge controller that will allow customers to charge electric vehicles directly from their renewable energy sources.
UL1741 is the national standard that ensures the safety and reliability of grid-interactive inverters. Testing was performed by Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Test Lab based in Cortland, NY. Pika simultaneously received certification to CSA standard C22.2 No. 107.1-01, which enables Pika’s product to be sold in Canada in addition to the US market.
