Pika powers the DC microgrid at GreenbuildWASHINGTON, D.C. – Pika Energy’s core technology, the REbus™ direct current nanogrid, provided the backbone of the “Net Zero Energy Zone” at Greenbuild 2015 in Washington.

Some 10,000 attendees of Greenbuild witnessed the power of Pika Energy’s 380VDC electronics in the demonstration housed within the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The microgrid used solar photovoltaic energy from outside the Convention Center to provide both DC and AC electricity to booths within the Net Zero Energy Zone, a collection of booths in the expo hall.

In a live presentation hosted by Brian Patterson of the eMerge Alliance (inset), the Net Zero Energy Zone proved the efficiency and stability of DC microgrids. When the AC grid supply to the Net Zero Energy Zone was switched off, attendees saw how the REbus DC system stayed up and running.

The system used Pika PV Link optimizers, the 3kW Pika Grid Tied Hybrid Inverter, and the 80A Pika Battery Charge Controller connected to six Aquion AHI batteries for clean backup of DC loads in the form of LumenCache DC lighting. Universal Electric provided their StarLine busway to distribute DC to booths in the Net Zero Energy Zone.

Pika Energy joined LumenCache, Universal Electric, VoltServer, and eIQ as a co-exhibitor with DC Fusion, a collaborative of cutting-edge companies working in innovative DC power solutions.
